Windows could not be started as configured

I have just recently installed SP2 on a Windows 2003 Server and after reboot

I get a pop up that states the following: Service Control Manager: Windows

could not be started as configured. A previous working configuration was used

instead. I have found the Microsoft KB article on this and it just tells you

how to prevent the popup from coming back again. But...I want to know if

this has caused some unforeseen problems now or in the future. Also, from

what I have read...it seems as if Windows used the last known good in this

case...if so...will this have any adverse affects on this domain controller?

How can I tell SP2 has been applied successfully? I have upgraded many

servers with SP2 and never had this issue! Any help with this is

appreciated. Thanks!

Here is that KB article - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924690

RE: Windows could not be started as configured

Hi Chris,

I'm experiencing exactly the same issue. Posted my problems already last

year but no reply. My SP2 installation appears to have failed as well on a

domain controller. At least I get the same pop-up dialog.

The MS KB article is not helpful at all. Would great if anyone could let us

know whether there is a solution to this error...

RE: Windows could not be started as configured

I have not noticed any problems since this error. I have installed updates

since and rebooted and everything seems ok. Not sure what the deal was but

hopefully everything will be ok. You still noticing problems?

RE: Windows could not be started as configured

I've been testing it in VMWare after I converted my real server into a

virtual machine. I didn't dare installing it on the live system but it looks

like I have to. :(

Have not noticed any problems though....
