angel Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Hi I've got myself a laptop and am trying to move all my pictures from my old lap top to my new one. I have tried getting them back from pc to camera with no luck so have now bought some disks, disks i bought are CD R. I copy picture folder, but when i try pasting in CD:Drive (D) i get message saying insert a disk into drive D which i have done. I have tried other disks in there and it reads them ok. I have also managed to get video clip from new laptop onto disk and then onto old laptop so I know teh disk drive is working. Any ideas on how to get round this problem or any other way of moving my pics to new laptop thanks Quote
I4n Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 I use a memory stick to move pictures between machines, just drag and drop. Quote If it ain't broke.........
Jelly Bean Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Angel is your new laptop installed with a DVD rewriter or a CD rewriter? Are the disks the correct disks and what brand are they? What are the make and models of your CD/DVD drives? Have you tried updating hardware driver via device manager? Do both laptops have wireless cards as you can transfer over a network. Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Angel does the old laptop actually have a cd drive that can burn stuff or is it just a standard cdrom player? Quote
angel Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 Angel does the old laptop actually have a cd drive that can burn stuff or is it just a standard cdrom player? How can i find that out? Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Consider this image which is not the best sorry, but at the right hand side under the wording Compact Disk it should say what it is, ie; CDROM or CD-+R/RW. http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/img/data/articles/2003/600/CD_Box.jpg Quote
angel Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 the disk drive is on the left hand side and i cant see anything that says what it is laptop is dell inspiron 2500 if that helps Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Well from what I can gather that lappy supports a cdrw but I can't ascertain if it actually came with one. Quote
angel Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 would it be saying insert disk in drive because im putting a blank disk in so it cant read anything on it so thinks there is no disk there? Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 In theory when you pop a blank disk in whatever software you have should pop up and ask if you want to do X, even if you don't want to do anything. Roxio is the built in burning software in XP provided by Microsoft but to me it sound like the lens has died, if it is a cdrw drive. Quote
angel Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 ok well thanks for all your help guys, think i'll get a memory stick sounds a lot easier than disks. So i plug into the usb socket, then what??? Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Transfer the files to the USB. Check the file size of the pics file first Angel. Quote
