juangambino Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Right guys and girls, I have seen this problem before but following a lot of posts I am sill no where. My DVD R and CD RW drive is not working!! When I have a blank cd in (in my computer) it shows the drive as a CDRW and DVD R however when I place a dvd in then it recognises it as a CD with 0mb. NOW - Nero does not recognise any drive and wants to burn to an image BUT I have successfully burned a DVD using Xconvert to DVD sucessfully. I have unistalled the device from the device manager and still no avail. Reinstalled the IDE and the drivers seem to be working fine. After getting a little stressed out I thought I would format the damn thing. when I put my windows CD and restart the pc it does not boot from the CD. I went into the BIOS settings and the CD rom drive is my primary boot so I cant even do that. Last night I managed to burn a CD via drag and drop but I just want my dvd r working again   lol if there is anything else needed to know in my quest to get it working please ask though my pc is at home and Im at work Im glad to be away from the damn thing! Im at the end!! Regards JP + SIrry if this has been repeated but nothing from any thrad I have found anywhere work Quote
RandyL Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Hi juan; I'm assuming that your drive or drives burn DVD and CD. I'm assuming that you had a basic or full version of NERO from the start. Uninstall Xconvert from add/remove programs in the control panel. Try using your native burning software after uninstalling Xconvert. Quote We are all members helping other members. Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I don't see how you can burn DVD's when you quite clearly state that you have a DVD R (read) drive, this is a stand alone ROM drive and quite distinct from either a DVD -R or DVD +R. Quote
juangambino Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 DVD-R Write-once4.7 GB single-layer 8.5 GB dual-layerYes. Requires a DVD-R capable drive.YesNoVaries by model. its a write only DVD drive and a RW cd drive Quote
maynardvdm Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Hi Just to clarify. Do you have 2 seperate drives a DVD and CD RW drives or is it a combo drive. Have it(they both) just stopped working at the same time? What does it say in device manager now? Quote We are all members helping other members. juangambino Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 Hello Maynardvdm yeah its a combo drive. Everything in the device manager is ok. The have stopped working. Its just the DVD. When I dont have a cd in the drive at all. In my computer it shows as a dvd/cd drive. When I place an empty DVD in it only recognises as a CD. I can burn to a cd using drag and drop but on Nero the drive is not recognised. + Been on forums for past 2 days none stop trying to figure it out lol I dont think its as simple as I dont know difference between ad writeable and unwriteable dvd drive. No offence wolfey :) Quote
maynardvdm Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 What happens with other burning software? Does it do the same. Try this free one: The Official ImgBurn Website or CDBurnerXP: Downloads Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else.
