if anyone is wondering why i might have been blabbing negatively in the channel 8* thread - here is why..

In Canada we have a store called Canadian Tire - basically a home depot / rona type store.

 

they have been running new ads for (dont laugh) Debbie Travis Closet Organizer

 

> the gist*of which is - why try to screw mounted closet systems in place using levels etc - when you can just by ready to assemble "columns" that you can choose?* (wardrobe one, shelf one, drawer one) all designed in a white*cape code / maine beach house style.

 

plus its on sale.

 

So i thought ( of our rickety - bent closet posts and shelves that have been here since we moved in 9 years ago...* good idea!* ill get that - and rip out all this old crap - plus if we move they arnt atached to house - so we can take them.* done deal.

 

*goes online - checks products / size measurements ... all ok - reads user reviews - all good - instructions suck - ok..* notice that every piece is sold separate - drawers, shelves, ( the columns come with only 2 or 3 shelves..* in other words - its designed to make you buy all this extra stuff.

 

so at this point - i figure i better check Ikea - ... go there (www) check all shelves / alternatives / combinations.. any of which come out to over 1200$* (even the plain white shelf stuff)

 

...go back to candaian tire site.. add up actual cost - even with all the pieces... 420$

 

ok thats good enough for me - lets go do it! we'll go through all our clothes.. organize everything.. gung ho - off we go.

 

There is a new SUPERSTORE CT in our neighbourhood (opened*in sept.)* SO we go in - and find the display (up high) - uh- oh no boxes under it.

 

Wait for a sales rep...* finally one comes..

"Hi you know your tv ad - with the debbie travis shelves, these ones - right here? - do you have them in stock? I dont see any boxes"

 

"hold on sir ... wait wait wait wait (number 264756 bla bla ...*

comes back.. this one is in stock - but i dont know about this one ( the wardrobe column)..*

me: " ok - could you find out please?* its the ones from the NEW AD you are running on tv.* i went to your website - apparently there are many pieces (shelves, drawers, doors - that are separate.* can you check if you have those in stock too?"

 

"hold on sir ...* comes back - i dont know sir we have this piece is all i can tell you

 

me - um ok...* thanks - leaves - goes to customer service..

 

"hi im leaving - but i just wanted to point out that i came here to buy 500$ worth of what you are advertising on tv - but salesman could even tell us if it was in stock

 

have a nice day.

 

we left.

 

 

Punchline:* after leaving tory says - do you have my wallet? i say no. she has left it in the cart with 600$ cash in it..* we race back - its siting there in a cart in an aisle untouched...

 

so now im glad they are so inept :p

 

i feel better now
