change Loacal Domain extension

I have a 2003 Domain Controller with a domain xyz.local. As I have to expand

the system and also add some more servers and also an Exchange server which

has to be accessed from outside users. Therefore I would like to change the

Domain to XYZ.com or .net

is there any way to do that without loosing the accessibility of the users

on the local network?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thank you

Re: change Loacal Domain extension

Hello Somchai,

There is no need for changing it, because the access from outside you can

configure via DNS from your ISP and internal DNS settings.

Except if you still will change the domain name have a look for ADMT v3:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=6f86937b-533a-466d-a8e8-aff85ad3d212

And if you will change the domain name wait with the installation from exchange

until the domain name is changed. It is easier without an existing Exchange

server.

The is not a very good idea in my opinion. Is your exchange server going

to be on the net?

Keep it .local and either do Outlook WEB access an VPN for remote users.
