Casswilf Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Hi Folks, I need your help once again. I have a relatively new pc - Windows XP This week I got a pop up telling me some updates needed to take place and my system would re-start in x minutes.... upon re-starting I then got another pop up declaring it was "Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications" and that I had to click next or cancel..... whatever I try the systems closes down and restarts itself.. I have no chance to do anything option wise the pc just closes, restarts, closes, restarts,,, I have been doing system restores to get around the problem but that's not ideal is it... How can I resolve this one - any ideas? Thanks Casswilf Quote

Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Where did you take the restore back to Wilf? Quote
Casswilf Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 Hi WolfeyMole Well I started get these messages for the first time yesterday so I have taken the restore back to just Monday - 22nd. Quote
RandyL Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Casswilf I assume you bought this computer new. Is that correct? If so change your update settings to notify so you can check them before downloading and installing so you can isolate the exact update. If you bought it used then by all means format and reinstall to clear yourself of the clutter. Quote We are all members helping other members. Casswilf Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 Hi RandyL, Yep it was new in April... Thanks I will get that changed - could you be a star and tell me where I find that - I'm sure I'd get there but I am just being rather lazy :D MANY thanks Quote
RandyL Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 I think if you go to the control panel and select classic view you should see see Security Center. Expand Automatic Updating and click Change settings. I'm on Vista now but hopefully I've pointed you in the general direction. See you tomorrow Casswilf.
