andyhargreaves Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Well, here we are again. Just to say, I love my Mac mini, and would heartily recommend Windows users have a go - it's amazingly easy to switch, you know. And I like being described as 'elite'...! Andy Quote
Guest imported_Mike Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Im going to be ordering one when i get paid. I think they are fantastic.. They just work!! * 512MB DDR333 SDRAM - 1 DIMM * 80GB Ultra ATA drive * Wired Keyboard & Mighty Mouse Kits * Mac OS X * 1.42GHz PowerPC G4 * ATI Radeon 9200 w/32MB DDR video memory At a grand total of: £452.38 with student discount :) Quote
andyhargreaves Posted January 22, 2006 Author Posted January 22, 2006 Sounds nice. Especially considering it's the same as mine! If you can, to upgrade to 1Gb RAM. 512Mb is OK, but the mini always runs at over 60% memory usage, and occasionally maxes out if a few intensive apps are open. I'm thinking about upgrading mine, but the thought of opening it up really worries me... (see here) 80Gb is also a wise upgrade. I've filled my HDD to nearly 50Gb already, so the 40Gb drive would've been a problem. Andy Quote
Cooper Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 ahha .. im saving for a nice mac book pro tee hee i normally am agaisnt intel chips but its a dual core one .. so ill gve it a blast plus i just apple macs ultra smooth in a sensethat M$ cant define when building there shitty things :P... Quote
andyhargreaves Posted January 22, 2006 Author Posted January 22, 2006 I'm really cautious about the first batch of Intel macs. I just get the impression things wont work as well as they do currently in OS X, in terms of software and hardware compatibility. I'll hang on to see how things work out before thinking about getting one, and in the meantime enjoy my PowerPCs! Andy Quote
Josh Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Hehe i've got the powerbook atm..... but hopefully getting the new macbook pro, due to the fact that Intel are making the CPU, which for Mac will operate like lightning. However, I would have prefered Apple doing a deal with AMD Quote
Jamey Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I think I remember reading about how Apple switched from their old processors to the current PowerPCs, similar to the current move towards Intel processors. Their initial computers that used the newer processors were actually slower than the previous counterparts due to optimisation problems. I think this is what could happen, but I have a feeling they may have done a better job this time. I think the next batch or revision will see a performance improvement. Quote
Cooper Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 yey heres goes for my savings fund :D wait till new version of macbooks are out Quote
Josh Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Yeah possibly but I do think they will have spent more time, as the reputation of Intel processors could be damaged if they are slower. Quote
