LaserJet 3050 Windows x64 Terminal Services can't install drivers

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We are running Windows 2003 x64 as a terminal server. We have a home user

with a Laserjet 3050 but she is unable to print at home. I tried to install

the x64 driver from HP but it is a univeral driver and when I try and add the

32 bit drivers in windows it will not accept them because it says they are

not for that printer. How can I get this printer working for 32 bit xp pro

user?

Thanks

Jared

I tried posting this on the HP forum but got no replies and don't really

know where else is best to ask.

You will have to add the printer driver from a 32 bit client with the

authority to add the printer. you can't add a 32 bit print driver from any 64

bit client or on the 64 bit server since it is in essence acting as a print

server, if I read your post correctly.

You may have to connect to the printer on the TS server directly (as you

would a print server) and add the driver that way as well. (kinda cheating

the system). If the TS server is seen as a print server this can work.

May not solve this, but it is just an idea. I have used this approach for

adding 64 bit drivers (for 64 bit Vista machine) to a 32 bit print server.

RE: LaserJet 3050 Windows x64 Terminal Services can't install driv

Hi,

I don't really understand how to do this.

I tried to just install the x64 drivers but it asks where is the printer so

I choose one of the TS ports and it will install but doesn't work. How do I

tell the home user's printer that these are the drivers it needs? And as the

home user is using XP pro I assume I also need the x32 bit drivers, I haven't

installed these yet because I can't see how I tell the printer to use these

drivers.

Thanks a lot

Jared

RE: LaserJet 3050 Windows x64 Terminal Services can't install driv

You create a custom ntprintsubs.inf file, which basically is a

translation table, telling the TS: if the remote printer is model

XXX, use driver YYY.

That's explained in detail here:

239088 - Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services

server logs events 1111, 1105, and 1106
