Guest Adam Raff Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Good Day, Our company is looking into a product called Diskextender which moves files from one location to another location and leaves a stub in it's place. Does anybody use this product and if so what do you think of it (Pros and Cons) and is there anything out there that you may feel is better. Any recommendations or suggestions would be a great help. Thank You Adam Raff
Guest Kerry Brown Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Re: comments on third party program called Diskextender In what context are you going to use this? Anything that complicates backups and restores is probably not a good thing. If you are running out of disk space the only real solution is larger disks or move the files to a new place with more room. -- Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP - Shell/User http://www.vistahelp.ca/phpBB2/ "Adam Raff" <araff@newsgroup.nospam> wrote in message news:e1mEgMgUIHA.5264@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Good Day, > > Our company is looking into a product called Diskextender which moves > files from one location to another location and leaves a stub in it's > place. Disks are cheap. I haven't used or seen DiskExtender, but I don't really see the point of it, given that ....well, given that disks are cheap. If you can't add more space to your file server as is, look into getting another box running Windows Storage Server or something.
Guest Adam Raff Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Re: comments on third party program called Diskextender We have decided not to use the product as the cost was to high for our company. Also the product did not have some options that I hoped it would have for the price. To answer your question we have a lot of files of which we always seem to need. I move older files to another server manually so that we can keep our backup time down to a reasonable time. It has happened that a few times users can not find said files and in essence they misplaced them at times. This program looked great not only for backup but for file management. After a certain time the file would be moved leaving a stub behind this allowed the users to find there files when it moved to the other server which is backed up less often as the files on that server are not as important and did not require constant backup. This also reduced our backup time on our primary servers. thanks for your feedback Adam Raff "Lanwench [MVP - Exchange]" <lanwench@heybuddy.donotsendme.unsolicitedmailatyahoo.com> wrote in message news:%237$IhfhUIHA.4532@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Adam Raff <araff@newsgroup.nospam> wrote: >> Good Day, >> >> Our company is looking into a product called Diskextender which moves >> files from one location to another location and leaves a stub in it's >> place.
