jsilver Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Hi there, Can anyone please help me? My internet connection always cuts out if I use my disc drive for anything (playing an audio cd, installing a program etc). I have to then restart the PC as it won't reconnect. I really need to sort this out now, as I am trying to set up a wireless connection and I have to use a CD-ROM to set it up, and I need to maintain a connection whilst going through the process. Any ideas? I would be most grateful to have this resolved... Quote

KenB Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Hi, Lots of questions............. 1. Laptop or desktop ? 2. How are you connecting to the internet .....router ? modem? Dialup ? when you are getting disconnected ? 3. If router - does this function normally until you connect the CD ROM drive ? 4. If you are not connected to the internet does your CD drive function normally ? 5. How is your CD drive connected ? IDE / SATA cable ? Does it have its own cable or shared? ADSL modem at the moment. Drive functions normally but disconnects the internet immediately. I don't know what cable it uses (and I don't know the difference between IDE & SATA!), sorry. Quote
KenB Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Switch off at the wall - leave the plug in to maintain the earth connection with your motherboard. If you take the side panel off and look inside the cable connected to your CD Drive - if it is a broad grey cable with 80 wires....it is IDE. If this is on its own cable ( not attached to the hard drive ) is there an empty connection on the motherboard that you can try ? samuria Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 To get around the immediate problem copy the cd to the hard drive and install it from there Quote
