hi again, I'm having a few issues with the length of time it takes SAS free version to do a scan.

Its always taken, a ridiculously long time in my opinion, usually 4/5 hours but recently I haven't been able to do a complete scan. This is the latest version available and I've just installed it. The scan got to above 10 hours and a whopping 800000 file items before I gave up on it the last time.

The quick scan takes roughly two hours. The system is clean as far as I can tell the quick scan found one trojan and I think that's a false positive, Malwarebytes is coming up clean too.

Anyway what seems more strange is that in safe mode the complete scan takes little over an hour and only scans 70000 file items.

So it appears to me that something is messing with SAS in a big way. But how do I track down what it is? Or is that the wrong way to look at it completely.

I'm running Sophos antivirus and Windows Defender in realtime.

Thanks

What spec is your PC? older systems will take longer to scan.

Try disabling your antivirus whilst scanning with SAS.

Also, run something like ATF Cleaner or CCleaner to remove all the temporary files prior to scanning - that will help speed up the scan.

hi, its a laptop, about two years old, Vista home premium, 2gb ram, intel centrino due, so while not being bang up to date, I wouldn't say it was a slow system. I'll admit the hard drive is pretty much full but its only 80gb (70gb used).

I'll give disabling the antivirus a go but I do run CCleaner prior to running any scans.

Hi mate.

I can only suggest the simple uninstall totally then go back to the SAS site and download and reinstall.

If you have Revo uninstaller or similar, I would recommend using that to make sure all remnants are off your system before downloading and reinstalling the new version.

I am running a full scan now in the background, It needed doing! :) So will post later how long it took for my version to run.

Just to add, that I ran a full scan with SAS and it took just over one and three quarter hours is all, and for the stuff I have on here it is what I expected.

I reckon you must have something wrong with the original version of SAS, so a reinstall should cure it.

if your hard drive is almost full taht will amount to the time it is taking.

it has too scan all your files...70gb is a lot of files too scan.

patience is a virtue so they say,,,,, i would be pretty annoyed waiting that lenght of time,.

safe mode obviously is no good because it will not load all the relevant driver, startup entries etc.......run ccleaner as suggested, do a disk cleanup then defrag using Defraggler - Defragment your files! then give it another try.

if it is still scanning then just leave it. dont interupt it at all.may want to start it before bed time then let it run......just unplug your ethernet cable or disconnect from the internet if your worried.....

i would suggest letting it run through.

and i would also suggest upgrading your hard drive.

is this your main bootable os hard drive...

bet its slow.
