Downloaded program files grows

We are old school: Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server, with Citrix

MetaFrame 1.8 on top of that.

Here's my question/problem: the DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES folder

located in c:\wtsrv keeps growing like crazy. Everytime I turn

around, there is another 200MB added to it's size.

How can I cut the size down and stop it from growing?

You're probably running IE6, correct?

Have you checked what exactly is stored there and who owns these

files?

You can either try to change the location of the folder to another

drive, or try to limit its size in IE.

But probably the easiest way is to schedule a small job which runs

every night and deletes the contents of the folder.

Re: Downloaded program files grows

We are running IE6.

Here's the thing I don't understand fully: the DOWNLOADED PROGRAM

FILES folder is not a normal folder. I can't just do properties on

'files' in there to see who owns them. They are object packages that

are installed on the system...at least that's what it looks like.

What is going to happen if I just go in and delete things?

Also, in IE6, I could find where to limit the size or change the

location.

Thanks.

Re: Downloaded program files grows

I'm sorry, but it is years since I last used an NT TSE and IE6, so

I have no possibility to guide you any further.

Have you tried the KnowledgeBase? With Adavnced search, you can

narrow your search down to NT4 + IE6.

Here's an article about a similar problem, which explains how to

empty the Downloaded program files folder:

Re: Downloaded program files grows

Thanks for the help Vera. I might be on the track of it.

I have learned that I can see the files in the folder by changing the

attributes (attrib -s "Downloaded Program Files"). Now I'll just play

with it and see what I can and cannot delete.

Thanks again for the help.
