Guest Steve Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Tried to ask a question about Windows 2003 Server on this newsgroup previously but did not get any response. Perhaps if I rephrase my question, someone could point me in the right direction. Running a new installation of Windows 2003 on a corporate network with local machine admin rights. The machine is part of the corporate domain but I do not have access to the domain. The server is only for file sharing. Domain users can access shared folders. My desire to block write access to the shared folder for everyone except the required managers and techs is stymied by the fact that every time I try to setup a user group for the selected users, the server requests the domain administrator's user name and password (which are not available to myself). Is there a way to get around this roadblock and setup a user group with domain IDs so that the proper users can write to selected folders and everyone else set to read only? Thanks in advance... Steve
Guest Harry Bates Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Re: Win2003 Server Help request If they have the domain locked down to where there is no anonymous LDAP queries, then probably not. You will not need domain administrator access just normal domain user access to be able query for a domain user's SID.
