Calculation of Totals in database field

Please can someone tell me what to key in to get a numeric total in a field in my database. Idiot-proof instructions/help please ?

Do you actually talk of an Excel sheet calculation here Liz?

Thanks for the response. No it's a very basic Word data base that I'm trying to set up for a birthday party for my husband and all I want to do is automatically add up the numbers who have accepted in the last field.

If you talk of something that's set up via a Table angle then this won't work Liz.

 

Do you have MS Works or MS Office at all as you need to use the Spreadsheet side of that.

 

Here's an example ok as I presume you have seen a spreadsheet.

 

If you want to calculate the sum of the column A1 to A16 then at A17 type =sum(A1:A16)
