I'm posting here because i think my problem is a graphics card issue.

So, i switch on my pc, i get the bios ok, windows XP loads, i get the loading screen with the blue bar moving across, then a black screen.

Then, i get loads of stange colours, i can just make out what looks like a mouse and then welcome screen, everything is screwed up.

I can move the mouse, and i can work out what is going on, but this is no way to operate the computer. The computer is working fine, and i know for a fact that the monitor is ok becuase i tried the monitor on differnet computers.

It must be the graphics card. What could be causing these issues?

I just get strange colours which try to represent what should be showing on the screen.

My card is a Nvidia GeForce 8600gt

2GB ram,

GIGABYTE motherboard,

windows XP service pack 2

Please offer suggestions on how a graphics card issue can be resolved. I have already tryed taking it out and re-seating it, had no effect. Remember, i can see things, but with GREAT difficulty, it's mainly just strange colours.

Thanks,

Jamesbrown :)

Hi James

This is obviously another box as your profile states Vista.

Have you tried in Safe Mode as that will load the generic video drivers only, albeit blocky and large?

Other than that have you tried just running off the onboard graphics?

Installing XP SP3 would not come amiss either.

done

upon loading in safemode, everything looked absolutly great. The welcome screen came in perfect colour. The desktop loaded perfectly.

Does this mean that the problems i've been having are driver based?

thanks, :)
