Can the PS2 do component video?

I want to send my PS2 (non-slim version -- really really old) video to the component channel, and I bought (twice) cables that say they will do just that for both the PS3 & 2.

 

The problem is, I still get no video on my component channel.

 

I'm thinking now that the PS2 can't do component?

 

Or that I'm having terrible luck on bad cables?

 

Or that my PS2 is so old that it didn't have this put in at the time?

 

Or is there a switch I gotta flip or something?
