adrianmole Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Hi, my pc running xp home has an issue; when booting up and windows loading screen, there is windows loading bar etc, on the screen, but when it comes to the desktop, the screen is blank. I know it's loaded, because the welcome sound comes on, and i hear the "pop" sound of a new notification. The pc boots up ok in safe mode, but after that, I'm scuppered! any help will be greatly appreciated! Cheers, steve Quote

How To Restore Icons That Have Been Removed from the Desktop in Windows XP Sorry, that hasn't worked as the screen is completely blank, so i'm unable to try that. Quote
adrianmole Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 Try it in Safe Mode Adrian. No joy,i'm afraid. Quote
RandyL Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Hi adrian; Out of curiosity can you try something for me? Once you bootup use Ctrl-Alt-Delete and bring up Task Manager. Click File then click New Task. Type "explorer.exe" without the quotes. Next click Desktop in the left pane and see if you see your shortcuts. Close Task Manager and explorer. Is your desktop still blank? adrianmole Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 I mean completely black..think it's the monitor, coz i tried it round at my friends, and it was fine Quote
danzil Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 can you see POST post being the startup of your PC? Meaning the screen where it counts up your ram, checks your drives etc., and the XP (knight rider) bar gliding from left to right. if so i very much doubt it would be your monitor please confirm regards danzil :) Quote Windows 10 Pro x64Aqua Jeantech Gaming case550watt psu.MSI Gaming Board32GB DDR3 Corsair gaming RamGenuine Intel i7 3.2Ghz4 x 24x dvdrw 150GB SSD750GB Hybrid Drive256 RAID PCI/E SSD for OSand loads of other bits i really dont need :D
adrianmole Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 Hi Danzil; yes, i see the post screen, and the knight rider bar - after that,it's blank. However, I moved the pc downstairs, and ran it through my tv on the rgb setting, and it was fine Quote
Jelly Bean Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Have you tried a diffrent monitor on the computer? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
adrianmole Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 Yes, I tried it on a friends monitor. It just seems weird that I get the post screen and Knight rider bar, and then nothing ! The windows music comes on, as does the 'pop' of a notification. Strange as. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 It does indeed seem strange, but there may be a problem in the monitor that only happens once it has warmed up a little. We know now there is nothing wrong with your computer as a friends monitor works OK, as also you can get everything to come up on your TV. So I suggest taking your monitor round to your friends and trying your monitor on his computer. If it does the same thing then, it must be your monitor. Nev.
