Hi, I have in the last couple of days had to format my hard drive and reinstall xp pro. Just started adding my programs etc back on, but noticed last night when on the web that i was not getting any sound from the speakers on my moniter. As it is a new moniter (well not that new just that I bought it a couple of days ago) thought that it may be that but when i plugged my speakers in found that there was no sound there as well. have gone to Volume Control it comes up with the following message

volume control

---------------------------

There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware.

This program will now close.

---------------------------

OK

---------------------------

Followed the message and there is only printers and faxes or add hardware in the control panel both of which can not seem to fix the problem.

Any ideas

Cheers

What does it say in Device Manager?

Let us know the make and exact model number of your PC ( if it is a commercially produced one ).

If not -

Make and model number of your sound card.

Chances are that you need to reinstall the drivers for the sound card - the information above will allow somebody here to locate the specific drivers for your card.

If your "soundcard" is onboard then the make and model number of your motherboard will help.

Further to Kens post above, have you as yet installed any or all the windows updates?

If not but intend doing so, please do not as yet install service pack 3. There are some issues with service pack 3 interfering with driver installation if the sound system is the Intel AC97 or later editions.

If you already have installed service pack 3, let us know please.

Another thought....

Start > Run .....type in ...services.msc

scroll down and find Windows Audio

Right click > Properties

Make sure it is set to "Automatic" in Startup Type

Check after changing that it has started.
