Guest Jo Jo Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Hello all, I've got a good one for all of you. Can someone tell me the difference between XP and 2003 in regards to Disk I/O? There is a difference, I know that for sure doing some tests. I'll setup my senerio. Mind you these tests were setup with one constant, the hardware. In both test scenario's the hardware never changed. Hardware setup: Intel based system with a 6 SAS drive RAID 0 hanging off the box. (Direct attached SCSI/SAS). These are Write Tests only. Results: Server 2003 gets about 250MB a sec writes. As expected. XP barley get 70MB a sec writes. Not as expected. Conclusion: I'm (hate to use this word) "assuming" optimizations have been written into server 2003 based on it's role... its a server. And to refine my question, what are the technical differences? And are there optimizations I can apply to XP to get the same rates? Thank you for taking the time to read my post and I hope you reply with a definitive answer. -Jeff Some IT dood on the East Coast USA
