Hi

 

I'm trying to connect my laptop to my parents wireless internet. My computer is showing several networks as available and the status is 'connected' to the the right network. However, I can't use the internet. A 'no connection to the internet is currently available' message shows up when I try to launch a browser. I've tried IE and Mozilla but neither seem to work.

 

I also have an error message appearing when I shut the computer down. The message reads 'the instruction at 0x00111b48 referenced memory at 0x00111b48. The memory could not be written'.

 

Any help at all would be very gratefully received.

Hi and welcome to F-PC-H

 

Has your laptop ever connected to the net via this network ?

 

What is the make and model number of the router ?

 

Do you have an ethernet cable to try connecting directly to the router ?

 

In the bottom right corner there is an icon that looks like a monitor.

Right click on this and select "repair"

 

Is your O/S Win2K ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

When you connect does it ask for a key/password. Normally the connection should be protected via WEP or other so you must enter the key for it to work.

 

Can you goto start then run type cmd in the box that comes up type ipconfig /all and post the results do this when you think your connected

I have connected to the internet and entered the password. It shows up as connected but I can't launch a browser.

I'ved used this server before but via an ethernet cable. We don't have a cable now as the parents have set their computer up as wireless. They're using a Zoom wireless-g router (series 1056).

 

My laptop is a Dell Vostro 1000 with Windows XP Professional.

 

I've tried clicking repair but it doesn't work.

 

 

 

Please let me know if you need anymore info.

The ipconfig is showing up as correct in you are getting all the right ip configurations ok so you are connecting to the router ok.

Can we try

From a cmd prompt (were you did the ipconfig)

ping microsoft.com

 

then

ping 194.119.131.66

 

then

tracert 194.119.131.66

 

can you connect to the internet with any other software ie email, MSN, ftp ?

If the above reply ok then you connection is fine and the problem is with the browsers or your infected with malware /virus

Try unistall firefox and reinstalling the new version if you can get a copy on a pen drive or simliar

Default gateway: 10.0.0.200

DNS Servers: 10.0.0.200

 

 

The above section of your ipconfig output says that DHCP is disabled on your wireless card, and that the adapter is configured with static address information.

 

This way, your parent's router can't give your computer the right information to use to access the internet, but your computer still thinks it is connected.

 

Try re-enabling DHCP by going into control panel, then network connections, then finding the icon for 'Wireless area connection'. Right click on it, and select properties.

 

Find 'Internet protocol TCP/IP'. Select it, and then click the Properties button.

 

In this window you should see the options 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'. Select both of those, then click OK, and then close.

 

Disconnect from the wireless network, and then re-connect. Give web-browsing a try.
