Hi, my laptop has developed yet another issue. Whenever the screen is off, and turned back on it comes on with a red tint. I noticed about a week ago and the degree of redness seems to have worsened. At first I thought it was just my eyes playing tricks, now its quite definitely red. It does fade back to normal colours pretty quickly but I can't help thinking that its only going to get worse.

Really what I need to know is if this is the first stages of the screen dying, and any predictions on how long it will be till its unusable. Or indeed if it will get worse.

The truth is that I really need a new computer, and it will certainly not be a laptop, but I just can't afford one right now. This laptop is a bit under 2 years old and in my opinion should not be in the condition it is but there's not really much I can do about that.

Anyway, cheers for the help.

Have you tried hooking it to an external screen Shrimps to determine if it's either the laptop screen or the onboard graphics?

Hello there.

This could be gamma settings.

If you are running NVIDIA control panel or ATI Catalyst then you should have already either software installed depending on what graphics card you have installed.

If you do not have the software installed to corrispond with your graphics card download the updated drivers and software from either NVIDIA or ATI Radeon.

Choose advanced options and check the settings.

Or are you running and Intel?

Hi,

Wolfey, its the screen that's at fault, just had it hooked up to an external monitor and all is fine.

It's intel graphics, but it does seem to be the monitor that's at fault.

Ok

It would be cheaper to get a new box than have the screen replaced I reckon Shrimps although others may disagree.

Thanks, It'll be a case of running this until the screen doesn't work any more though :(. And then maybe I buy a decent monitor to use with the laptop until I can find the money for a new desktop.

Nevermind, life goes on I guess.

You could probably buy a desktop cheaper than a lappy anyway Shrimps and they are far more versatile than a lappy, ie changing gpu's, memory etc.
