Wireless Connection drops after less than 2 mins, with full signal!

Hello,

 

I am posting this for a friend as the one trying to fix it up!

 

Not sure of the current PC's specs, its an XP machine.

 

The wireless connection is at 100% yet will not stay active for more than a minute or so, and once it has dropped the signal is still perfect.

 

The router is by D-Link and the reciever a belkin wireless thingy inside the PC (mind my jargon lol sorry not sure what the actual term is!)

 

There is another PC in the house. this problem occurs on the downstairs PC, closest to the router. this problem occured in the begining, and so the belkin reciver was bought to solve the problem, yet the problem persists.

 

The old reciever is now in the upstairs PC (by buffalo im told) and the connection is perfectly fine.

 

could it possibly be that the problem PC is located right behind a wall? im assuming this should not be the problem, as at home my wireless works with all doors closed hehe.

Hi Cherrelle,

 

It sounds like your problem might be a wireless signal that is actually too strong. If the PC using the connection is placed very close to the antenna of your wireless router it might actually be 'too much' for the receiver to handle, and drop the connection.

 

Can you try placing the router further away from the affected computer, and see if it solves the problem?

The signal strength may be fine but the quality may be rubbish. Using the software that comes with the wireless adapter look for other networks and see if any are on the same channel as you or try netstumbler its free and it will show whats near you and any noise.

 

It could be there is noise from a tv,microwave, xbox that is giving the problem
