KenB Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Hi and welcome to fpch Switch on and constantly tap f8 ( about once per second ) You will be faced with the Advanced Start-up Options Select "Enable VGA Mode" Windows should boot and hopefully you should be able to read the text. Graphics will look odd - minimal drivers. Right click on the Desktop and select Properties > Settings Slide the Resolution across to the right. Click on Advanced. Select Monitor from the tabs. Set the Refresh Rate to 60Hz Apply and Save. Shut down and boot normally - hopefully you should see the text and graphics clearly. Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 The monitor should have come with a cable that has a plug on each end that looks like this. http://thetechnut.files.wordpress.com/2007/09/vga2.jpg The blue connector shown at the top right is what should be on your pc. Please tell us if this is so. Quote
leeds1972 Posted July 18, 2009 Author Posted July 18, 2009 when windows starts up i have done what you said (f8) but the screen is just full of unreadable text and icons so i cant access vga mode .is there anything else i could try if i cant read the start up screens?thanks Quote
leeds1972 Posted July 18, 2009 Author Posted July 18, 2009 yes the computer has the blue slot and the cable you are showing.that is where i am plugging the monitor into but to no avail.realy am pulling my hair out as i dont know whether to try and take it in for repair/upgrade or buy a new base unit.thanks Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Unscrew the connectors and make sure there are no bent pins on each plug then reinsert them making sure they are fully secure, especially on the monitor as they are fiddly at the best of times. Quote
KenB Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 As this is a new monitor - it could be that an internal setting is incorrect. Can you borrow a monitor that uses the same connection to see if you get the same condition. If the borrowed monitor is ok - your new one needs to be returned.
