julie Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Hi everyone, Im having real trouble trying to install a new printer. I know absolutely nothing about computers and have having 0 luck at the moment. This is the 4th printer I have tried to install, ranging from cannon, epsom and now back to lexmark! When I take the printers back to the shops, they test them on their computers and shows nothing wrong! Anyway, I have a iqon package computer from tesco 2 years ago. It has windows xp on it. Every time I try to install a new printer, it lets me get to a certain point and says the same thing "New hardware found, and then it says "their has been a fault found on your hardware, this may affect your installation." I have bought a new usb port cable, so its not that, the shop has checked the printer, not that. This time, I got as far as pressing "install" on the computer, with the computer plugged in and cable into back of modem and disk in and even though the usb cable was in, the machine kept saying plug the cable in, so it wasnt recognising the cable was already in, as it should be. I checked the cable wasnt loose, it wasnt. Ive looked on this website to see if I can find anything similiar. Someone suggests canceling all the usb ports and reinstalling them again. I could probably work out how to cancel them but wouldnt have a clue how to reinstall. the printer is lexmark x3480. Is there anyone out there who understands this ramble and could help please before I book myself into the mental hospital!!!! Julie Quote
maynardvdm Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Have you tried different usb ports? about installing the usb port go to add hardware in control panel and follow on screen instructions. if you dont understand anything there just post back and someone will get back to you. Good luck. If you are not sure about something rather ask again than guess what it should be. regards maynard Quote We are all members helping other members. julie Posted July 26, 2007 Author Posted July 26, 2007 Hi, thank you maynard for your response. Im so fed up now with this all. Its so frustrating because I cant afford to call the help line at £1.50 per minute and I totally dont understand what I am doing. I tried all the usb ports. Went to add hardware. The "found new hardware wizard" searched for lexmark 3400 series printer and it said installed. Then it searched "usb printing support" and said "finished installing the software for usb printing support". I have gone into printers to see if there is anything listed and it shows nothing. I dont know where to look and what Im looking for. Ive tried to reinstall again from cd supplied with printer and it keeps saying the same thing, "fault found with hardware". its probably something really simple but because I dont know anything about computers, its getting really annoying now. best regards Julie Quote
danzil Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 a couple of things you can try are: going to start>control panel>system>device manger then browse down to "universal serial bus controllers" expand them and right click them and click "uninstall" do this to all USB's then go to the top where it says your computer name.right click there and then left click"scan for hardware changes" this will then re-install your universal serial bus controllers. now try to install the printer... also another thing is the print spooler may not be running.....right click "my computer"then click "manage" now go to services in the left, then "services"in the right column. now scroll down "to print spooler".. right click it and then click restart,or start if it isnt running...now see if the printer is shown......if that worked then go back to the print spooler and double click it and make sure it is set to start "automatic". i hope that help kind regards danzil Quote Windows 10 Pro x64Aqua Jeantech Gaming case550watt psu.MSI Gaming Board32GB DDR3 Corsair gaming RamGenuine Intel i7 3.2Ghz4 x 24x dvdrw 150GB SSD750GB Hybrid Drive256 RAID PCI/E SSD for OSand loads of other bits i really dont need :D
