Hi there

Plz tell me if i can install an "ATI RADEON HD4350 VGA DVI HDMI PCI-E LOW PROFILE" video/graphics card in a DELL GX270. I know that i need a VGA card, and it has to be LOW PROFILE size but i am not sure if the GX270 mother board will be able to handle a 512mb graphics card... at the moment the memory is 512MB in the motherboard, would you recommend i upgrade it to 2GB before i install Video/graphics card?

You can find dell GX270 Specs here http://www.dell.com/downloads/us/products/optix/gx270_spec.pdf and advise me

Plz reply soon thankyou

Hi, and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

we moved this as the introductions is for just that. Here is where you should ask your questions.

Can you please tell us a bit more information as the PDF document is for all three sizes of machine, which one is it?

If the smallest I doubt even a low profile card will fit, but I may be wrong. Also the size depends on how many memory slots there are, and seems also to determine what type can be fitted.

Hi Nev

I must tell you that the Dell GX270 I've got is the smallest of all sizes shown in the PDF, It's no bigger than a laptop, yet its powerful... I can play games like 'Stronghold' with no trouble; by only making use of the 512MB Virtual Memory... I just thought adding a graphics card of 512MB or even 1GB will make a pretty pwrful but don't want to set fire to it.

I'm also looking forward to upgrading RAM to 2 GB, any advice on that would be appreciated

Here r some details of the system

Pentium 4 (CPU 2.80 GHz) 2.79 GHz

512 RAM

Thanks 4ur Reply

Hi, sorry for the delay in answering as I have been busy elsewhere.

The graphics card I am not too sure about whether it will physically fit without actually seeing the two together, but if the card will fit it should work.

As far as the extra RAM is concerned, the best thing to do is visit the Crucial website and let it scan the machine, it will tell you what amount of RAM can be fitted, the make, and type.

have a look at-

RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, flash cards, SSD at Crucial.com

The scan and test of your system will only work directly if you are using Internet Explorer, other browsers will not, and will mean downloading the scanning program.

Can you post the Dell Service Tag number for your machine. You'll find it on the back or underneath the unit.

That way the full spec of the machine can be checked on the Dell website. Armed with that info it should be easier to check video card compatibility.
