My friend has just started using a computer. I would like to point him to a very simple note book/pad. He wants to be able to write simple letters as if he was using pen and paper. He is finding open office word to fussy.

Hope I have explained myself.

Tell him to use Microsofts inbuilt scribe Bob, Notepad.

Want a few more bells and whistles but no bright lights, use Wordpad.

Look in Programs, Accessories.

Thanks Wolfey.

He is settling for wordpad an app I had forgotten all about. He likes the help file part of it as well. I have not looked very hard but would like to give him spell check in Wordpad.

Regards

Bob

Hi bob;

The next step up and probably the easiest option is to use Microsoft Works Word Processor. It has more options than Wordpad but less options than a full Office Suite.

It should be located in the main All Programs in a Microsoft folder. Start>All Programs> Microsoft> Microsoft Works Word Processor.

It has a spell check icon in the standard toolbar or by Tools>Spelling and Grammer.

If you don't want all the toolbar items showing go to View>Toolbars>Standard Toolbars.

Let us know if you have it and what you think.

Consider this image from MS Works Word Processor Bob.

Just double click a given word that is spelled wrong and then right click and that menu will open offering alternatives.

Thanks you gentlemen. Let it ride for now as he wants learn to use wordpad first. He says he is not worried about spell for now.He really is a novice and still at the scared point and wants to know what every icon is. Bless him.

He will learn IMO that most of them are for show.

PS I do have MS works word processor somewhere in my armoury

Thanks again

Bob
