AliTheBrit Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 Im more than happy paying for something if it protects me, so I'l buy SAS and MWB, I already have bought Avast So I will be running Avast, SAS, MWB all real time, as well as using them for scans and of course any windows defenders are a given, and I'l stick with windows firewall for my firewall. Oh and do SAS or MWB warn against malicious sites?
AliTheBrit Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 ARGH!!!!!!!!! IT DID NOT WORK Omg.. I did the full factory restore, and did what the wolf dude said but it still doesnt work, im losing the plot here, it makes no sense, The Sims 3 disk works on other laptops, and other games, even games by Maxis, EA like Spore work on my laptop, so why isnt this one working!??!?! WHY!?!?!
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 No mention of windows updates, how you went on with SAS and MWB, whether you scanned the back up folder etc etc. All your bothered about is this Sims game, now we'll give you one more chance to say EXACTLY what you have done from pressing F11 or this thread will be closed.
AliTheBrit Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 Jeez man relax I got all of the windows updates, I have yet to install SAS or MWB, I scanned the back up folder its 100% clean.
Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Please download the latest version of HijackThis from Trend Micro and save it to your desktop. Download HJTInstall.exe to your desktop. Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install HijackThis. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis . Click on Install. It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop. Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Include this log in your next reply. Notes: Do not use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted. Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless, or required for your computer to run like it should.
AliTheBrit Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 Ok, when I do this it tells me "for some reason your system denied access to the host files" then it carries on and when the scan is finished it comes up with a "cannot find the C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.log file. Do you want to create a new file?" I click yes but then it just brings up a blank notepad... ?
RandyL Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 The only thing to conclude here is that you haven't done a complete reinstall of Windows which would make your computer just as it was when you bought it. A new install would create the basic plain text HOST file. The fact it can't access it means that malware is preventing it or that malware has placed an infected HOST file on your computer. Possibly even in the wrong directory. You need to reinstall Windows completely. HJT will have no problem running on Vista after you do so. We are all members helping other members. Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Find Hijack this in All Programs via Start. Left click on it once to open it then right click and hit Run as Administrator.
Plastic Nev Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 OK I will try explaining a little more, and as simply as I can. Avast and AVG are anti virus software. All antivirus software runs continuously, that is what they are made to do in order to provide continuous protection. If more than one antivirus software is running at the same time they will cause conflicts and basically wage a little war between themselves. The reason is because of the way they work, one sees the other as a potential virus so tries to stop it working, the same goes the other way round. The result is the two antivirus programs can't catch any virus because one is trying to turn the other off, back and forth all the time, and therefore isn't on long enough to do anything useful. Also using your computers resources and slowing it down as well. However antimalware software like SAS and Malwarebytes work in an entirely different way from antivirus programs for a start. Secondly they are not actually on all the time as antivirus programs are. Antimalware programs only actually do any work when you tell them to do a scan and look for malware. Providing you don't try to have two of them scanning at once, then there can not be any conflicts between them, and because they work differently they won't conflict with an antivirus program either. Then there are blocking programs like SpywareBlaster, they are programs set up to continuously compare all incoming data and traffic with a vast library of malware file signatures, they will block any file that has a signature similar or exactly the same as one in the library. This is again a different type of program and therefore doesn't conflict with anything else. Please do not try and use two antivirus programs at once and do take notice of what we say, we are here to help you, and many other people as well. Some of us with many qualifications and long experience with computers both in industry and with home computers. We don't spout rubbish, what we say comes from a tremendous amount of real knowledge. Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Why have you still not got SP2? Auslogics is still present after we told you to get shut of it. Get shut of the Google Tool Bar also.
RandyL Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 As noted the AusLogics BoostSpeed program is there again. I can only assume that since you reinstalled it that you have run it. Therefore once again your system is not pristine and could once again be corrupted. Any program that purports to do everything is in my educated opinion complete and utter crap that will likely do more harm than good. Also when I see Browser Helper Objects like the Google toolbar installed in a log I know it was installed after. Did you also install Ipod. If so why? Did you put music and other files back on your computer? How are you installing some of this software such as AusLogics BoostSpeed and Ipod? Have you tried any other manner of disks such as cd-dvd with other types of files beside Simms? In order to rule out hardware we need a pristine environment. Not one with all the crap reinstalled or your backups put back on. And why in Gods name would you reinstall AusLogics BoostSpeed but not bother to get the latest Microsoft Windows Updates? I sugggest you start from scratch again and this time do it right and follow all our advice. We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. AliTheBrit Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 Woah woah ok let me try answer all of that I DID install the latest Microsoft windows updates I didn't install any Ipod, I do have an ipod and use itunes however And AusLogics is a trusted program with so many features that you can choose exactly what you want it to do, Since I have got it it speeds up my system by miles and is very convenient its not doing any harm, and I installed it after I tried the sims again so that isn't it if your wondering. And guys, I tried sims 3 before i did ANYTHING else, I got the latest windows updates then I tried sims 3 and it didn't work so i proceeded to replace my backup files. Il take out google toolbar now it makes no difference to me, I use Safari not IE
AliTheBrit Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 Also: The Sims 3 works on other laptops, so it is not the disk. Other PC games and DVD's and CD's work on THIS laptop, including Spore (same publisher and developer of the Sims 3 so similar set up)
RandyL Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I DID install the latest Microsoft windows updates Yet clearly your log shows that only Vista SP1 is installed and not Vista SP2. Therefore you have not updated Vista or are unable to update it. This is often the case with a pirated operating system. Either way you are not telling the truth here. I didn't install any Ipod, I do have an ipod and use itunes however Which is it? You either have or you have not. Your log shows that you have at least plugged it in if not more. And guys, I tried sims 3 before i did ANYTHING else, I got the latest windows updates then I tried sims 3 and it didn't work so i proceeded to replace my backup files You do not have SP2 so not updated like I said. Backup files before the issue is resolved too. You really are not following our advice or being honest. Il take out google toolbar now it makes no difference to me, I use Safari not IE Even more software installed before resolving the issue. At this point we really can't take any single thing you say seriously or to be truthful. And AusLogics is a trusted program Trusted by whom? We have all reiterated the same advice on this. Yet you stand your ground. We can not help you if you refuse our advice. That is your choice to make and you have made your choices. I'm sorry but you can't have things work the way that you think they should work. It's obvious that you think you know better than the everyone else and refuse to follow our advice. Trying to figure out the half steps and end arounds you are pulling on us is fruitless. I wish you the best of luck because you are one man against the world. You'll need it. Due to lack of co-operation and honesty this thread will remain closed this time. Do not bother to contact us on this matter. We are all members helping other members.
