devilsofdarkness Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Hi all....after a problem with my daughters dell laptop.,it went back to shop and apparently had bad sectors? and would start up correctly...Wolfeymole on here was kind enough to help me at the time and suggested when i get it back to make back up disks in case anything else goes wrong with it....(it didnt come with original disks...windows xp pro all ready loaded) so can someone please explain to me how i make back up disks thanks all Debi Quote

Helper Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 (edited) Helo Yes As Wolfeymole Said It Means A Hard Drive Could Be On Its Way Out But Somtimes Is Caused By Not Shutting It Down Properley, etc Fixing Sectors Is Easy You Can Do It Your Self, if you would like to know more please ask. About Backing Up, go to your back up and restore centre on the control panel and create a restore point, then save it, burn it onto a disk, if you need any more help, just ask :) note:remember where you save the Restore Point Or It Will Clog Up Your Machines Space, Also If She Is Running Vista Or Anything Else Apart From Windows XP Post It And I Will Rewrite How To Chris Edited August 23, 2009 by Tootech Quote
snow Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Burning a windows restore point to a CD will NOT back up your data. Only your windows settings. When Wolfey said 'Backup disks' he just ment that you should copy your important data to somewhere other than your computer, so that in the event that the hard disk fails, you will still have access to it. Do you have an external hard drive? That would be ideal. Just copy all of the data you want to save in the event of a crash to a folder called 'backup' or similar on the external drive. Of course you could also burn this data to CD's or DVD's, but that wouldn't be as realiable as storing it on an external hard drive. Quote Need help with your computer problems? THIS IS EXACTLY wot she did, she now tells me that the pc froze and she pressed the power button to make it turn off and now it wont start up....PLEASE PLEASE Let me know how to deal with the bad sectors :) thanks debi Quote

How to fix Bad Sectors, Now In Vista And Its The Same In Xp, Got To My Computer Click Tools Then Click Error Checking, Mark Attempt To Fix Bad Sectors Then It Will Say, Cannot Perform Check While The HD (hd=hard drive) is in use, so shcedule One, Then Restart Your Computer Quote
