quaytec Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Been getting this for 2 days now...." Project 1 has stopped working ". Followed by avast virus warning. win32:tiny-11, win32:trojan-gen. Followed by windows defender:trojandownloader:32/renos.jf I get the option to remove them, once done avast scan shows no problems. However there still there next time i log on. Pc won't let me run superantispyware or malwarebyte and system restore won't work. Thx for any help on this one. Quote
jtucker Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Download a copy of Bullguard Internet Security, then remove Avast, install Bullguard. You can just use Bullguard in it's grace mode, which gives you 6 days, without having to register. Update it and run a scan. If you wish to put Avast back on remove Bullguard and install Avast Also drop all the other Spy/Malware products and download Ad-Aware from Lavasoft. Quote
RandyL Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Hi quaytec; Try running Superantispyware and Malwarebytes in safemode. Get these updates first. SUPERAntiSpyware.com - Database Definition Information Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Database - GT500.org Another thing to try is renaming the mbam.exe file. "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe" Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Plastic Nev Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Hi quaytec, did you manage to get Malwarebytes to install and run? quaytec Posted July 25, 2009 Author Posted July 25, 2009 no. malwarebyte and superantispyware won't work neither will system restore. Quote
RandyL Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 quaytec in post 3 I asked you to try in safe mode both Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. Did you try that with both? If so what happened? Did you get any error messages? If so what? We really need as much details as you can provide. Simply saying it didn't work doesn't give us much to go on with the next step. Also in post 3 I asked if you could rename the mbam.exe file in the directory I pointed too. I have no idea if you tried that and then tried to run Malwarebytes. Malware can cause these programs to not run and these steps might be able to fix that. As such we need to know these things in order to move on. What do you mean by System Restore won't work? Are there no points found? Did it fail to restore? Was there an error? Did it do anything at all? Is there a System Restore at all? We really need much more information on everything. We are trying to help. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. quaytec Posted July 25, 2009 Author Posted July 25, 2009 Sorry been a little sketchy i'll try a little harder. Tried renaming malware but get same result which is a windows message saying "malwarebytes has stopped working" tried in safemode with same effect. Also system restore lets me choose the point and goes into it process only to reboot pc then tell me its been unsuccessful. Tried it on different points and a few times too with same effect Quote
Plastic Nev Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Hi Quaytec. Please follow this exactly, First you will need access to a clean and unaffected computer, and a memory stick or pen drive. Next totally uninstall or delete all traces of existing Malwarebytes on the affected computer. Then use the clean computer to download the malwarebytes file. Once downloaded, change its name, then copy or transfer the renamed file to the pen drive. Once you have done that, insert the pen drive in the affected computer and transfer the file to a folder of your choice. With luck it will then open and install from that file. Let us know if that works, then you can do the same with the SAS file. If still no good, again let us know, we will take it from there. I doubt that system restore is going to work at all until we can get shut of whatever infection you have. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Have you made DVD backups of the operating system Quaytec Quote
quaytec Posted July 25, 2009 Author Posted July 25, 2009 got 2 recovery disc they what you meen ? Quote
Plastic Nev Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Hi again, I have two questions now as it seems you have something really nasty in there that cannot be removed by our conventional means. First is, have you fully backed up all your data, preferably before you got hit with this malware? The disks you have should be able to reinstall windows from a full reformat of your system if you do have that backup, as a reformat will and should wipe the entire system of everything including the malware. Let us know and we can direct you in the reformat and reinstallation of your operating system. Secondly, If you do not have a back up and therefore wish to not do a full reformat, there is only one way open left. It may take some time though as you will be asked to perform perhaps many different tasks, and show the logs from them. This is one of the very rare times we ask you to go to a specialist malware removal forum here- MalWare Removal • Index page you will have to register as a normal procedure, but then follow all instructions given. I hope that you can recover your system from there. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 It has come to our attention that you have posted for help on another forum(s). We do sympathise and understand that you want your problem solving as quickly as possible. Posting on multiple forums, however, is not the answer. Whether this is a malware or other problem you must realise that a great deal of time is spent by moderators and helpers in researching possible solutions for you. Under normal circumstances we do not begrudge you this time at all. After all, that is why we are here. It is, however, very frustrating to find that our colleagues on this, and other help forums, are being asked to spend time on a topic that is receiving assistance elsewhere. There is also the problem of conflicting information. There is often more than one way of solving a particular problem and if you are receiving assistance from two or more sources, this will invariably conflict or be duplicated. Either way this is a waste of helpers’ time. As you have posted on two or more sites you now have a decision to make. We are happy to help you here but you must inform the other forum(s) of your choice so that you are not wasting other helpers’ time. Similarly, if you choose to get assistance elsewhere please let us know and we will close the thread and wish you luck solving your problem. Please let us know your decision within the next 48 hours. If there is no reply after this period your thread will be closed. Quote
quaytec Posted July 26, 2009 Author Posted July 26, 2009 Hi i do apologize i did originally post on different forum because i was struggling to log onto this one. But think that may have been down to the problem i'm having as other things ie antivirus updates dont work either it gives me unable to connect to internet message, although Aol works fine. Then of cause there them 2 minds greater then 1 theory, not taking into account the too many cooks theory, using laptop to post now and that seems to work on this site alltime so happy to carry on with your advice if thats ok. Think most things or at least the stuff that matters are backed up but will need a walk through on partitioning and reinstalling if thats the direction your heading. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 OK Quaytec, are you sure you want to go through with a reformat? You can still go to that malware removal site and have a try there if you wish! However if you wish to do a reformat we can help. Also if you can tell us what exactly each of those recovery disks are it will help us to explain which way to go. Did they come with the machine, or are they disks you made when you first got it, is what we mean, and also is one the operating system, the other the drivers? Nev. Guest Wolfeymole Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 On boot up press whatever key it asks to; "Press F2 (example) to Enter Setup", it may be Del or F11 etc. This will take you into the bios. Here look for the boot options, it may come under Advanced at the top like in this pic. http://www.playtool.com/pages/biosfiddling/bios1.jpg Set the 1st boot sequence to the cd/dvd rom drive, pop the first disk in and then press F10 to Save the changes and Exit. On boot up it will ask you to "Press any key to boot from cd" It will ask this again later on subsequent re-boots, PRESS NOTHING and just let it install. Quote
