Network bridge cuts out my internet connection

Hi everyone, My first post here :)

Ok, I'm using Windows Vista home premium on my laptop (Acer 5920). For months now I've been using my laptops wireless internet to connect my Xbox 360 to Xbox Live using a network bridge. I've never had to disable the bridge at all, if I'm not using Xbox Live I just unplug the ethernet cable. So this morning I used my laptop just to browse the web, not for Xbox Live. I shut down my laptop, go out, come home and I can't get online. My icon has the little '!' next to it where the globe should be. So after checking out my laptop and trying to think what could have gone wrong I decided to disable & remove my network bridge, hey presto my net connection is back. Which is great, however tonight when I wanted to play Xbox Live I decided to try it again, set up a new Network bridge. As soon as I did that I lost my internet connection.

Why is this? I haven't made any recent changes to my machine at all. Now I can't connect to Xbox Live which is very annoying (and I'm not paying for the ridiculous priced Xbox Wireless adapter). I would like to fix it, If anyone has any ideas how to do so?

Hi Bill and welcome to the forum

 

The first thing to try is re-creating the bridge, then right-clicking it, and selecting properties. Make sure everything is ticked, especially your two adapters.

 

Once you've done that, click OK to go back to the network connections window. Hold down the 'Alt' key and you should see the menu bar appear towards the top of the window. Click Advanced. At the top of this window underneath 'Connections' you should see a list of your network adapters.

 

As far as I know the bridge should be at the top, followed by your wireless, followed by your LAN card. If that is not the case then try setting them in that order by using the buttons at the side, disconnecting your Ethernet cable, and plugging back in.

 

If after a minute there is no change and you still can't access the internet, then log into your router and make sure MAC based access conrol is turned off in your wireless settings.

 

Which of your network adapters show the yellow '!' sign when you can't connect?

Thank you for your reply. I haven't tried what you've suggested yet but I will do later today when I have more time. It's my wireless connection that shows the '!' sign.
