Guest webster72n Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Experimenting with Ad-Aware, my right-click function for the desktop went 'out of order'. I can do without, but would like to restore it, if possible. The question is 'how'? My post in the IE browser ng hasn't found any takers yet. Harry.
Guest Mart Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Re: Right Click Menu Disappeared Harry, how long have you been visiting the WinMe NG's? Guest webster72n Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Re: Right Click Menu Disappeared SR is only one of the things I've already tried with no joy, I might add. This was my 'last resort', Mart. Hope you are not going to tell me to 'start from scratch'. I could probably live without it, but have no way to check my desktop features, included in the menu. Even 'Mr. Google' wasn't given me any clues. When I un- and reinstalled Ad-Aware this happened and in connection with the Recycle Bin. I still have have all the desktop icons, but am unable to hide them, the way I am used to, because of the right-click failure. <H>. Guest Heather Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Re: Right Click Menu Disappeared Before you get all involved in fixing this, have you tried either using another mouse, or reinstalling the mouse software.....assuming your mouse has software?? It could be just a faulty mouse. Can't see where uninstalling AdAware would cause that. Also do a search for keyboard commands. There has to be one for "right mouse clicking". Mac Users do NOT have a right click, but they also use a heck of a lot of keyboard commands!! On second thought, do NOT do the search for the keyboard commands. Guest Mart Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Re: Right Click Menu Disappeared And another useful utility to test the mouse is the Mouse icon Control Panel. It even lets you swap left and right buttons. But am inclined to agree with Heather and Heirloom, can't see where uninstalling AdAware would cause that. Sure you haven't done anything else? - Try a bit further back with SR. First substitute your mouse. Does the Right button work elsewhere? Is it only on the Desktop that it doesn't? For example :- "No Shortcut Menu Is Displayed When You Right-Click the Taskbar" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263615/en-us BUT!!!! > and in connection with the > Recycle Bin. Guest Mart Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Re: Right Click Menu Disappeared Jean, *IF* and I repeat *if*, Harry can't repair it using System Restore (which by its very nature ASS-U-MEs restoring a previously 'good' registry) sadly, it's unlikely that scanreg /fix or TweakUI's "repair" feature will help. The question is > 'how'? > My post in the IE browser ng hasn't found any takers yet. Start regedit, expand and highlight the following keys and look in the right window for "NoViewContextMenu". If you find it, delete it, then restart the computer. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore r here I find 'NoClose', 'NoDrives', 'NoDriveTypeAuto', 'NoFileMenu', 'NoRun' and 'NoSaveSettings', not the 'NoViewContextMenu'. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor er the first time around I thought there was \Browser following the Explorer, but the next time I looked, the last item was \Policies and no \Explorer. HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explo rer here again the same items I mentioned for Current_ User and no 'NoViewContextMenu'. I wouldnt have touched anything, unless I was 'absolutely' sure to have it right. Thank you very much for your support, Ben. <H>. Ben

Guest webster72n Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Re: Right Click Menu Disappeared Figgs: I like your current hair colour better, but the right click on the recycle bin refers to the desktop items in the taskbar and when I right-click on the recycle bin, the different options for handling it come up. Not anymore, as well as there are no results, when right-clicking on the desktop, or anything else for that matter, that's the problem! I'm hoping for the best, Harry.
