Guest DS Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I found something odd today on the File Server Manager. It lists a different name than what the actual PC is named. xxxx.dra.hmg.gb and xxx.dra.hmg.gb. Where they should be C103 and C116 (and that is what still shows on the PC) I am not positive when it changed. All patches are up to date. Any help/insight is appreciated.
Guest Ryan Hanisco Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 RE: File Server Mgr does not match PC. Trojan? In some instances, someone using the MMC will point the tool at another machine. When they closed the window, it prompts if you would like to save, this can keep the setting so that it is looking at the other machine the next time you open it. You see this often with the DNS console and ADU&C in some places. This isn't generally something that is worrisome. Besides, Trojans will just mess with the system not use the management tools. -- Ryan Hanisco MCSE, MCTS: SQL 2005, Project+ http://www.techsterity.com Chicago, IL Remember: Marking helpful answers helps everyone find the info they need quickly. Guest DS Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 RE: File Server Mgr does not match PC. Trojan? Ryan, or anyone else, Thanks for some relief. But still a little puzzled. This system is rather autonomous, I am the only admin and have never logged into another server. The users whose name changed do not log in anywhere else. I did reboot the server last night and this morning the proper computer name is displayed for those users. I admit being rather green to everything… and still concerned/confused. Any additional explanations is appreciated. "Ryan Hanisco" wrote: > In some instances, someone using the MMC will point the tool at another > machine.
