When starting my computer, it goes through the process of loading the start-up programs (Windows, AVG, Zone Alarm, printer etc.,) and one of the proceedures is to detect and connect to my broadband connection.

However, sometimes this happens quite quickly, but other times it can take at least 2-3 minutes before it detects and connects to my broadband.

Why is this, and can it be corrected ?

I guess this is a wireless connection you are describing?

Is AVG set to run a quick scan on startup - I think its a once a day thing, if so, try disabling the scheduled scan and see if it settles down.

Windows Startup

Tks for your response. I cancelled all scans for AVG and checked the startup times over five days now. On 1 day my computer connected with my broadband in under 1 minute, but on 4 days it still took 2-3 minutes to do this.

There is obviously some other factor involved. Any ideas ?

Do you know exactly what prompts the computer to decide it has to connect to broadband ? Is it in the startup programme, or something else ?

Hi John,

This may be of help to us, click start, run and type in the box- msconfig

When the window opens click the "Startup" tab, scroll down the list and see where in that list the entry for your connection is, also let us know if there is more than one entry for the same thing.

If so, it may be ignoring the first entry and using the second one instead.

Hi, Plastic Nev

Did what you described, and had a look down the list in the 'Startup' tab, but I couldn't find anything that even looked like an entry for a connection. let alone 2 !

Should there be something in there ?
