Hello everybody, this is my first post, I'll try to be active here :) .

Anyways, I am wanting to build a PC, I've never built one before, that is why I am here, I would like information on what I need to build my first PC and what tools are needed.

I am a Web & Graphics designer but I am thinking of Video & Music editing so I want to build something that is capable of doing stuff like that, I don't play games but I might play an odd few games sometimes when I'm bored, I also like to play movies and music, so I want something good to do all these stuff :) .

I'm on a budget right now, as I am a young teenager, I'm wanting to spend about £100 - £250.

I would also like to know:

+ What is a good online retailer that sells computer hardwares for cheap prices.

+ What spec's are good for Web Designing, Graphic Designing, Video Editing and Music Editing (I'm a creative young boy :D )

+ Do I really need a metal thing grounded on the ground ( I don't really understand this).

+ Would linux be a good choice for OS, I'm not really planning to buy an OS.

Thanks to everybody who helps :D , Tajdid

Hi Taj,

I'll start the ball rolling, here's a build I put together for you. Forget £100, anything decent will be about £250.

If you want to try Linux, have a look at Ubuntu 64 bit. It may not be to your liking, but its free, stable and pretty quick.

I'd also say for running music/video editing changing the 2GB memory to 4GB will help your machine stay running quickly when you use it heavily.

I havn't got a clue what the metal thing is that you refer to - help???

I prefer Ebuyer for parts, others have their own favourites and there's not alot between them.

Thank you Tootech for going through the trouble to create a list :) I'm very grateful, I'll save the file on my computer.

By the way the metal thing I was talking about was an anti-static device, is this nessary? if it is where can I get one .

I'm still open for more suggestions, also Thanks again Tootech :)

Not all at once though ;)

Thanks

I agree with Tootech. That is a decent system for the price. The OS would also be extra if you go with Windows.

Should I get Windows Vista then

Personally I wouldn't touch Vista with a barge pole (well I have done at times!!) but alot of other people do like it.

Have a look at these two links for Vista with the Windows 7 upgrade, it probably makes the most sense in the longer term. Windows 7 is good in my opinion and its worth considering it for the future. Thats just my view, hopefully others will add a few comments too.

Is this the anti static device you referred to - for use when building your system?

Well I like the interface of Windows 7 and some of the features but is it resource hungry? Or should I just get Windows XP?

By the way, is the Anti-Static Device Nessarary?

The antistatic wristband is a precaution, it prevents high levels of static voltages building up in you. OK they aren't normally high enough to give you an electric shock but to sensitive electronic devices, even 80 or 90 volts discharged through them is a certain fry up.

If you are standing on a nylon or other artificial fibre carpet for example, I have seen sparks jump 4 or 5 millimetres from people, including myself. Not much energy, but quite high voltages involved.

I have installed Windows, now how do I install the curtains? 😄

I would point out that XP is very old now. Microsoft won't be supporting it much longer. If you want a Windows OS I suggest Vista or wait for 7.
