Guest Jim in Cleveland Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I have a Dell 2850, secondary domain controller, running server 2003 w/sp2. I looked in the event log under apps and noticed that the server is generating the following error every 5 or so minutes, Event ID: 1053 Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.). Group Policy processing aborted. When I click on ADUC, I get the following error msg: Naming information cannot be located because: The network path was not found. Contact your system administrator to verify that your domain is properly configured and is currently online. I can remote into this server with no problem. I can ping it with no problem. I cannot get to any website (internal or external). This was working at one time. I do not know when this problem started. This server is acting as the secondary DNS server for our domain as well. It also is our Symantec mgmt server. Any suggestions on where I can look for answers to this problem?

I believe in your case it's Userenv: http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1053&eventno=1584&source=Userenv&phase=1 There are numerous causes for this error. Without specific configuration about your infrastructure, it is impossible to tell. This can be a simple classic DNS misconfiguration, problem and/or misconfigured domain name, but have NO idea at this point because we'll need specific configuration info. Here is a summarized list of possible causes: 1. Single label name. 2. SRV records missing. 3. Disjointed namespace.- AD domain name doesn't match the Primary DNS Suffix and/or the zone name. 4. Using an ISP's DNS in IP properties of the DC and clients. 5. DHCP Client service disabled. 6. DCs are possibly multihomed (more than one NIC not teamed) 7. 3rd party firewalls 8. Antivirus software blocking functionality 9. Antispyware blocking functionality 10. etc.... If you like to get specific help to diagnose this issue, and to elimiante guesswork on our part, for starters, please post the following information: 1. Unedited ipconfig /all from two of your DCs, and one of your clients.. 2. The exact zone name spellng in DNS and whether updates are allowed on the zone. 3. The AD DNS domain name as it shows up in ADUC. 4. If the SRV records exist under your zone. 5. Any errors in the Event logs on the DC under System, Replication Service and Directory Services (post the Event ID# and Source names please) 6. Dcdiag /v /fix > c:\dcdiag.txt (post the dcdiag.txt as an attachment) 7. Netdiag /v /fix > c:\netdiag.txt (post the dcdiag.txt as an attachment) 8. More than one subnet? 9. Forwarder(s) configured? -- Regards, Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.
