Guest Jeje Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Hi, After I have upgrade my Windows 2003 x64 R2 server from 1 Dual Core Opteron to 2 Dual Core Opteron, (and upgraded from 4 to 12Gb of RAM) I'm suffering freezing issues during intensive calculations. Like processing an SSSAS OLAP Cube. once the calculation process is done or is in a less intensive part of the process, I can get the control again. before the upgrade I can do something on the server even when the CPU is at 100% of usage. Any idea? Thanks. Jerome.

Here's a dumb question: are both CPU exactly match pairs? I would expect that from mismatch CPU speeds / grades or mismatched memory types (i.e., a couple of PC2-3200s amongst a few some PC2-4000s). When there's any issues with increase of CPUs or memory oddities, I've always seen fixes done to the ntoskrnl.exe set of files that usually fixes it. I recommended this patch set to someone one before and they did seem to have some success with them: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938486/en-us You can request the hotfix free by visiting the link (http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=6294451) within that KB article and fill in the form. Turn-around time is usually 2-8 hours. - Thee Chicago Wolf
Guest Jeje Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Re: 100% CPU usage and server freezing during intensive access thanks for the info the CPU are the same, but I think the memory is not the same. I'll try the patch Thanks. If your memory is not matched through the whole system, this is the kind of behavior you would expect. No BIOS updates for this machine that might make different memories play nice together? - Thee Chicago Wolf
Guest Jeje Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Re: 100% CPU usage and server freezing during intensive access I think the patch solve the issue... I'll do more tests, but the serve still responsive for the moment. thanks.
