What is the maximum files that can be stored in one directory?

As many as you like. However, if you store more than 10,000 files

in one directory then the performance begins to deteriorate markedly.

no maximum for directories on NTFS, however if you have lots and lots

(thousands / millions) of files in 1 directory, explorer might take a while

to show them, or become very slow, in such case do a DIR on a command

prompt. The "slowness" is totally dependent on your server,

CPU's/memory/diskcontrollers/disk... etc....

 

there is however a maximum for an whole NTFS volume, which is 4,294,967,295

(232 minus 1 files)
