Hi,

 

What tools do you recommend for working with remote user consoles? Remote

Desktop doesn't allow the user and I (the administrator) to simultaneously

work with the console or TS session. Windows built-in Remote Assistant is a

bit of a hassle with its email authorization.

 

Any suggestions?

 

It would be nice to have this tool available as an MSI so that Windows 2003

server can distribute it to all the workstations.

There is msrdp.ocx. Free, designed for use as an embedded activex

object in IE. The terminal server is then accessed via a web page -

"portal" style.

 

RDP is an open protocol, there are other clients you can use, we have

not tried any though. We use the activeX control above in our own

custom client-side application. Advanced coding required, but virtual

channels and no need to explain to users how to use the "remote

desktop connections" thing can open a lot of doors.

 

Maybe this is not what you are looking for though. If you want a TS

farm supporting many many connections, the above applies. If you are

trying to assist a user and can't stand the remote assitance tool, try

dameware or VNC. Things work better if on a domain and you have local

admin rights to the comp you are trying to remote, and doing so just

on the LAN. If there is WAN and/or both of you are NAT'd it can get a

lot more complicated.

Please note, this tool need to be installed on both your computer and the

remote computer. You need remote user to grant you the permission before
