VSS not working correctly on 2003?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've enabled the Volume Shadow Copy Service on my Windows 2003 servers

and I've scheduled them to make copies every day but they don't do them!?

If I click on previous versions I only get the first day I've installed

the VSS as an option to restore from (and yes, this file has changed a

few times over the last days!). On the other hand if I MANUALLY click

'create now' in the Shadow Copies panel on my server then it makes a

shadow copy and this is also reflected in the 'previous versions' on my

client PCs.

Any ideas why it's not making the copies according to the schedule??

Any help is appreciated, thanks a lot!

I've had a similar issue before and we resolved it by resolving an issue with

task scheduler.

VSS creates a scheduled task to run at 07:00 and 12:00 by default. Check

that these are running.

Hope this helps.

Might not be of total use but perhaps ensure you've got the roll-up

installed: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349 You'll at least be

up to date patch wise.

How about Event Viewer, no useful information or error logs to

possibly troubleshoot?

Sadly, I have not seen anymore KB articles or hotfix patches since the

VSS roll-up.

Re: VSS not working correctly on 2003?

Oh, the scheduler couldn't start the task ... weird error but this will

help me to track the problem down!
