roddy Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Have old computer that the hard drive seems to have stopped working (Maxtor 2B020H1) that I use for the kids to browse the web/play games. I have been given another hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80gb IDE ST380215A) by a friend to use as a replacement. Can anyone tell me if this will work in the computer and if it is easy enough to change with the old one or should I just bin the thing and let them use my other computer. Any help would be appreciated. Roddy Quote
Tootech Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Both drives are UDMA 100 standard, which means it will work without any problems. To change it over, make sure mains power is off, take off the side panel or lid of your PC, locate the hard drive and unplug the power connector and IDE lead (the ribbon cable). Remove the screws securing the drive, take it out and replace with the new one. Replace cables and screws. Then reinstall Windows - if you need more help with that just ask, someone will help you out. Quote
