wireless and local area networking problems

my stepson has a second hand desktop with a wireless dongle. the only way we can get him to connect to the internet is by:- double clicking internet options in control panel then click on connections. we then click on LAN settings and where it says use a proxy server for your LAN we have to keep unchecking the box otherwise it wont allow him to connect. Can anyone give me a clue how to reset the LAN settings so we dont have to do this everytime please. I have tried everything i know even entering settings from other pcs we have in the house. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you have to do this everytime you switch off the pc and then on again?

 

Do you click on Apply and then Ok

Have you tried setting it in your browser? if IE tools/ internet options/conections/lansetting and set to automaticly select settings
