Hi everyone. I agree with snow and Plastic Nev as to what's going on here. Often times these types of tools can cause Windows to not even start let alone function properly. Keep your data backed up.

Guys just to mention that Black Viper has some extensive information on Services such as a complete list and the default settings for the Services. He also has some reg fixes for restoring settings such as Default Windows XP Service Pack 2 Services Start Key and Default Windows XP Service Pack 3 Services Start Key

I'm wondering if these would be of any use in this situation.

can you try one thing for me,,

go into start>msconfig>then click the services tab, then click on enable all.then apply.

let me know if you get an error message...

you will be asked to reboot, i am wondering if you do indeed have a virus,,,i worked on a PC yesterday that no matter what i did i could not start 4-5 services, i tried in msconfig and got told i did not have permission..

turned out after a scan with NOD and malwarebytes she had a virus...after i removed it and did some tidying up all was fine....

i cant say this is the case for you but hey maybe worth a try....

hi bob sorry for the delay.

have you as yet tried to run amemory test, and/or a hard drive check.

use the built in window shard drive check,, go to start>run type in cmd

when the dos box pops up type in chkdsk /f /r you will have to then press y, after a reboot the checkdisk will occur.

to test your memory download memtest and run that,,,this does take some considerable time....

i would like to rule these faults out if possible.

kindest regards

ok bob

again sorry for the delay.

please could you return to msconfig and disable EVERYTHING except your AVG, (In the startup tab only)

reboot and see if we are still getting these frustrating freezes....

i am trying to ascertain if it is a programme that is causing your services and PC to hang,,,or if it is a hardware issue (very much doubt it at thsi point due to previous checks.)

many thanks
