danzil Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Hi Bob to do a system restore do the following: start>all programmes>accessories>system tools>system restore. choose "restore my computer to an earlier time". you will then be presented with a calender. choose the date before you had all these issues...then click on restore.; note: this is completely reversible so do not worry to much about the messages you may receive. your PC will reboot then the restoration will begin. if you choose a date before all the freezing occured that would be brilliant. speak soon regards danzil :) Quote Windows 10 Pro x64Aqua Jeantech Gaming case550watt psu.MSI Gaming Board32GB DDR3 Corsair gaming RamGenuine Intel i7 3.2Ghz4 x 24x dvdrw 150GB SSD750GB Hybrid Drive256 RAID PCI/E SSD for OSand loads of other bits i really dont need :D

Plastic Nev Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Hi Bob, the disk that came with your machine will be a recovery disk. SFC Scannow will only work off a full windows disk, not a recovery disk. There is however a way round this if the original operating system file is not corrupt. However I am not familiar with the procedure to go through to point SFC at the I think, I386 folder in the windows files. Hopefully Snow or Danzil will know it. Failing that, I am beginning to suspect your hard drive is failing and perhaps the read head and arm it sits on is mechanically sticking, hence the hang ups. Nev. snow Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Hi again Bob, Nev is right, there is a way to run sfc without the CD, but only if you have a certain folder on your hard drive. If you open 'My Computer' and double click 'Local disk C' do you see a folder called 'I386' there? If not, then double-click the 'Windows' folder and look for it inside. Failing that, then go back to C:\ and double-click the 'winnt' folder if you have it, and look for it. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Plastic Nev Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Hi Bob, I hate giving a ticking off to a friend, but elsewhere you say that you are now considering taking the drive to be examined and perhaps retrieve the data with professional help. This is of course on the computer room or forum of IDF50. I can also see there may become a conflict in advise given here and over there, it is only fair that Snow is made aware of this. Nev. bob12a Posted September 28, 2009 Author Posted September 28, 2009 To Snow Denz and Nev and other who have helped me I have been in such a state over the last few weeks I am sorry if I have upset anyone by jumping between forums no harm meant I can assure you. One the the main things I have learned is maybe stick with one forum when one is in trouble(my mentor Nev has made me think this is the right thing to do.) This the the latest position I have posted it on other forums I am with as well. Thank you everyone for the time and effort you have put in to getting me out of a big fix. I have learned so much in the last number of days so although it has been frustrating its been worth it. As a last resort I decided to give Tuneup Utilities 2009 another go before I took the hard drive out and had it professionally copied. Having reinstalled TU I ran it and let it do its worst. I then tried to make a copy of the contents of C: only to receive message "close NTUSER" this message answered for me elswhere. Next I used my Acronis 11 back up creator (remember this has been continually causing intermittent lock ups) First pass with Acronis worked perfectly took about 1hour 30 mins. I now ran Acronis verify this locked up about 3/4 of way in (I wont tell you what I said) I ran verify again and it confirmed I had a correct BU of C: I know this has not cured the lockup problem but at least I have all my files on an external HD. My next move I think is to factory reset the machine not something I am looking forward to. I will not do it just yet though. Again many many thanks to you all Bob Quote Bob(bob12a)My 3D pictures need red cyan glasses to viewmedion MD8855,Win 7 IE8, Firefox/3, Avast,MS security essentials, NERO 9,malware bytes.Mailwasher pro ,6.54,Roboform,spybot S&D 1.6, Canon ixus 860 X 2,PS CS5
bob12a Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 I wanted to say a big thank you and posted this on a different thread so reposting here just to let you know how much I appreciated all the help you gave me. "A big thank you to all the people who helped on my recent lock up problem. I hope I am not tempting fate but I have not had any lockup/freeze now for 10 days.I have tried to reproduse the fault by downloading loads and loads of files at once although the machine slows right down as expected it handles everything a treat. Its a mystery to me what it was.Among the many things we tried together the one thing that seems to have cleared whatever it was was I reinstalled Tune Up Utilities 2009 pro and let it run then uninstalled it again. I say this as it was the LAST thing I tried. I did not bother factory resetting. My Acronnis true image 11 now make a scheduled daily incremental back up. Thank you all again" Bob __________________ Bob Quote Bob(bob12a)My 3D pictures need red cyan glasses to viewmedion MD8855,Win 7 IE8, Firefox/3, Avast,MS security essentials, NERO 9,malware bytes.Mailwasher pro ,6.54,Roboform,spybot S&D 1.6, Canon ixus 860 X 2,PS CS5
