gazza107 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 PLEASE SOME1 I NEED HELP I AM LOSING SLEEP Ok so here it is. I have been using a dual display set up for a few years now, but lastweek decided to update my motherboard and processor, (was this a bad idea, i ask myself). So my setup has 2 monitors 1 being an old Relysis monitor(VGA connected) the other being the TV (S-Video connected). So after replacing my bits i set the machine up all ready to go tried to turn on the TV though display properties as i have done for so many years now. And nothing, it appears that my s-video port does not recognise that there is a cable plugged into it. Now i have done a few checks obviously cables all work (i have checked with laptop) the TV works as well. Now i am using an ATI Radeon 9800 PRO graphics card which surports S-Video (i know it does coz it was working last week) i am also reasonably familiar with display properties, advance display properties and also Catalyst control centre but can i find out how to activate my S-Video. I believe it might have something to do with my BIOS settings for more info on my system please check: CPU-Z Validator 3.1 If some1 out can help me before i go into my fourth sleepless day i will be so so happy Cheers Gazza Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Hello there. The first thing you should do is reinatsll the graphics card drivers. Reinstall ATI Catalyst. Then configure the card via windows and ATI Catalyst. Graphics Drivers & Software JB. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
gazza107 Posted August 7, 2009 Author Posted August 7, 2009 reinstall drivers Its good idea but I have already tried that a couple of times now. Do you think that bios could be telling my machine that it does not have a s-video port Cheers Gazza Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Have you entered BIOS and checked what is set there? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
gazza107 Posted August 7, 2009 Author Posted August 7, 2009 Ya had a look but cnt find much really This 1 has really got me sscratching my head Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Ooops Gazza I am realy sorry we missed you. I have been busy with computer fixes away from the forum. Let me see if I can get some staff to answer your questions and help with your issues. Please except my appoligies. JB. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
gazza107 Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 no problem any time you give me is very genourous, thanks for your help so far. I read in a similar link that i had to reinstall all drivers for the card with my language settings in U.S. so i tried this but it still didnt work. I am using "american megatrends inc. version 07.00t" bios and was looking for a manual online to see if it was something in there, like i was saying i am convinced it is a bios setting, but i am struggling to find even that. The only other thing i can think is tat i damaged the card during installing to the new motherboard. Cheers Anyway Quote
snow Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Hi Gazza, Have you tried forcing detection using catalyst control centre? I believe it is under the 'Display options section', with a check box that reads 'Force TV detect' The BIOS shouldn't be a problem here, it will be your graphics settings in windows. gazza107 Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 i have force detected the tv in catalyst which then allowed me to select the tv and adjust its settings, but still no image would appear on the tv??? Quote
gazza107 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Do you think maybe an older catalyst control centre this 1 does look a lot newer than wot i remember?? Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 No the Catalyst is just an updated redesigned version. Have you now tried to configoure via windows and ATI Catalyst. Possibly lower or higher resolutions. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
gazza107 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 tried setting it up in both windows and catalyst at every different available resolution, tried doing both at the same time incase there was a confliction between them but still no joy. I was wondering if you think the rather large axe i have might help you know if in doubt hit it. No only joking but i am sure you understand wot this is doing to my mind Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) I do understand it is annoying you big time. Do you get a message on the screen at all as in TV? Have you tried diffrent cables and double check they are fully seated? Does the TV have another connection you could use? What happens if you disconnect the monitor and only use the TV then restart? Edited August 12, 2009 by Jelly Bean Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
gazza107 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Dont get anything on tv at all not even thhe slight discolouration like i get when i plug my laptop in before i put it on dual screen. Tried 2 different 4-pin s-video to 4-pin s-video they both work fine with the laptop also i have tried AV2S and AV3S on the TV bot work fine with the laptop, but nothing will work whilst i am using the PC The bit that really frustrates me is before i changed the case, processor and motherboard it all bloody worked. Jelly Bean Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) Wizards— use the simple ATI Catalyst Control Center Wizard to configure PC or HDTV display settings, 3D settings, and video settings in just a few simple steps. Display Management— easily configure displays for optimal viewing, including multiple display configurations (extended, spanning, cloning if supported by the operating system) on every type of display (CRT, LCD, DFP, TV, HDTV). Drive up to three PC displays simultaneously with ATI SurroundView™. It maybe the issue you are using the newer version have you tried an older version? TweakGuides.com - ATI Catalyst Tweak Guide Have you tried: Go to control panel > display settings, are you using Advanced options? there you can activate the second screen, that is, your tv screen. Do you gave Crossfire turned off ? Edited August 12, 2009 by Jelly Bean Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Jelly Bean Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) I am trying for you Gaz ATI is not my great knowledge I am a NVIDIA girl. Have you connected the yellow cable as well? Documentation Yes I know it is a Dell link. Edited August 12, 2009 by Jelly Bean Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Jelly Bean Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Ok lets go back to basics. What is the exact make and model of your mainboard you aquired? What is the exact make and model of graphics card? Lets see if we can look into this more closely? Ok could you check internaly that you have connected any cables required to the GPU. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
gazza107 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 "It maybe the issue you are using the newer version have you tried an older version?" Of which bit i have tried many different versions of ATI Catalyst from 6.2 to 9.3.1 owever 9.7 didnt recognise the device "Do you gave Crossfire turned off ?" I am only using 1 graphics card so wont crossfire be automatically turned off or unavailable either way i dont know, i will look for that in 1 mo Going though the display settings from control panel and then into the advance tab is where i got o before when i couldnt even get the card to recognise that it had someting pluged in then i put on force detect which would allow me to change the tv settings in control panel > display > settings > advance > displays but still i have no joy Quote
gazza107 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Dont have any yellow cables just double ended 4-pin s-video cable I have published my details on this link for you i think it should give more info then i can type CPU-Z Validator 3.1 Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I just checked your specs and I see no compatability issue between the card and the mainboard. You have plugged in the power supply to the graphics card internaly? Let me see who I can get to help with this issue for you. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Tootech Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Hi gazza, Do you normally have both monitors switched on and connected before powering up your PC - if not try doing it that way. I've had a good look around using Google and one working suggestion is this 1) Uninstall drivers and turn off PC. 2) Connect monitor to the dvi (if you have one) using an vga-dvi adapter. 3) Reboot in VGA mode. 4) Reinstall the latest Radeon drivers 5) Reboot normally. Its not a perfect solution, but give it a try. Quote
gazza107 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 internal power supply to graphics card is plugged in i have both the monitor and tv switced on and connected b4 turning on the pc and have tried pluggong them in after as well and then activating them but still i got no joy this way. My monitor has a built in VGA out and my TV is connected by S-Video, i do not have a dvi connector of any sort so i can not check this solution thanks anyway TooTech Quote
gazza107 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) I would be happy if i could get just the tv working and not themonitor you see i am in the land of just gone digital and could not really afford a new tv with digital. So i went out and bought an inexpensive digital tv turner card "HypemediaCentre" which worked lovely with my set up before, but since the change to my motherboard, i dont have any tv at all and i cant even watch downloads or iplayers or even DVDs since all these function though my PC. I could use my monitor for all those functions but the screen is a little green and facing away from the rest of the lounge so it would not allow me and the rest of the household to enjoy a movie whilst we have dinner Edited August 12, 2009 by gazza107 Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Your graphics card shows me you have a DVI port, the white port. You can buy adaptors to convert VGA to DVI and DVI to VGA.They are around £3-00. Now you say your monitor is a little green? So what you are saying is the monitor screen when on shows a green tint to it? Could you borrow a monitor off a friend or neigbour and connect it to your computer, does the friends monitor showup a green tint also? You bought a new mainboard or was this second hand from some were like eBay? Did you update the BIOS of this mainboard? Have you installed the latest chipset and drivers from the manufacturers website? I know a lot of questions we are just trying to rule out or rule in an issue.
