Hello there you need a full install disk not recovery disks.

Do you have a full install disk?

Does the error say missing or corrupt?

The hall.dll error can happen because of a corrupt boot.ini file.

Go back to the Recovery Console.

Type bootcfg /rebuild and press Enter (there's a space between the g and /)

After a bit of chugging your PC should list the Windows installs that you have.

The prompt asks Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All)

Type Y and press Enter.

The next prompt asks you to Enter Load Identifier

Type Windows XP Home Edition and press Enter

The last prompt asks you to Enter OS Load options

Type /Fastdetect and press Enter

Thats it, boot.ini rebuilt.

Remove the CD and boot normally.

It is a bit odd that it has happened after a clean rebuild, and I wonder if there is something else wrong, but this is the eaisest fix so give it a go.

Thank you

Folks, thanks for all your advice. I managed to obtain a set of XP discs and after a bit of muddling about got things back to normal.

Many thanks again, human nature is still tops.........

Greetings from Scotland to you all.
