pcignorant Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Hi, Not sure if this is the right place but here goes. I typed a letter in Word and because my printer is on the blink I sent it as an attachment to be opened on a friends computer and then print. I decided to check the letter again when it was in the attachment and got the following message-- WORKS CAN NOT OPEN The file may be in use by another application, the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or the file may be corrupt. I tried opening it on friends computer but got the same message. No other applications were open and automatic virus check was done before. Never had any problem before this. regards pc Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Hello and welcome. I am not sure of what the cause is at the moment but others can input and help also. Could you please post what operating system you are running and what version of works. Also post what your friends PC is running. As you maybe running diffrent versions. The file may of become corrupt during attachment and send. Could you try transfer via USB flash drive, floppy disk or CD/DVD? JB. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Tootech Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I noticed you type it using Word, and you have an error message apparently generated by Works. WORKS CAN NOT OPEN I don't know the full compatability list, but I don't think all versions of Works can open all versions of Word. There are Microsoft Word viewers available at Microsoft Corporation. What version of Word are you using? Quote
pcignorant Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 Hi ,thanks for replies-- Windows Vista Home Basic, think friends is XP Afraid not sure about detail re version of works, where would I find this? Jelly Bean Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Yes but did you transfer using the USB pen drive and did the file open? It is possibly down to diffrent OS such as Vista and XP and using diffrent versions of a software. It could even be a permissions issue in Vista. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
