Just thought I'd share a problem I had and how to fix as when I searched for this on through google alot of people had the same problem but no one seemed to have a solution.

Heres what happened and what fixed it

I had a new fresh copy of windows Vista Home Premium installed on my new PC and was getting all my programs on eg napster, microsoft office itunes etc

After installing everything worked except for itunes and windows media.

It gave me the impression itunes was trying to do something as the circle was spinning round when i double clicked the icon but it never actually opened or gave me any error messages.

Windows media opened but then just sat there and it stated it was not responding

I opened my task manager and I could see they were listing so I cancelled them tried to open them again, re-installed them twice still to no avail.

After reading on the net alot of people were suggesting that there was a fault with the windows installation and to do a clean install of windows.

This seemed a bit much as I had just spent 2 days getting everything installed so I tried doing this:

Even though it said my graphics driver and sound card drivers were up to date i decided to go to their website and download anything that mentioned being a patch for vista.

Graphics card installed with no probs but when I installed my sound card (which is a line 6 UX1) it made its way 2/3rds of through the installation before it stated that the next lot of drivers were older than the ones already installed which led me to believe the drivers for the first 2 thirds had somehow dissapeared as it installed them without telling me anything.

Anyway I didnt replace the newer drivers as this would be pointless but as soon as it finshed my speakers made a popping noise to show there was life, double clicked itunes and everything was woriking fine, double clicked windows media and hey presto

Hope this helps anybody with the same problem as I spent a couple of hours with this problem myself

Try this first as its pretty straight forward before going to extremes of re-installing windows

Thanks

Rab
