Servers need to be rebooted to get Video/keyboard

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever ran into an issue where if you boot up a Windows 2003

server without a keyboard/monitor attached you must reboot that server after

attaching a keyboard/monitor before you can use the recently attached

keyboard/monitor?

It is like something is not being loaded unless you attach the

keyboard/monitor. Does anyone know a way we can force it to load these

components?

Our linux machines always respond no matter what the status of the PS/2 or

VGA port is.

thanks,

Andy

Usually a KVM switch is used to circumvent this problem.

That is kind of silly to have to put a KVM on 1300 computers just incase for

some reason you can't remote desktop into one of them.

Hm, there is really no way to fix this?

Yikes.

Well,

thanks anywhoo.

Andy.

RE: Servers need to be rebooted to get Video/keyboard

PS/2 connectors have to be connected at system startup otherwise they are not

detected. Always used to be a real pain when someone managed to kick the

keyboard and mouse cables out of their pcs and they have an 'important'

document to save, the usb versions do not have the same issue. Your monitor

should always be 'live' its just waiting for something to be connected.
