Hello folks.

I am setting up a new web server with W Server 2003 Web Edition.

I remember a few years ago I did this and I was able to block all

ports except 80.

But I forget how to do it.

Does anyone know how to block ports?

Thanks in advance

This is something you really need to do in your firewall/router.

NO IT ISN'T

If you don't know the answer to someone's question don't respond.

Sorry, I stand by my comment. It *is* the intelligent way to protect a

server, particularly a webserver. Playing with IPSEC policies is not.

At any rate, this is a public newsgroup - caveat emptor. You're free to

disregard the replies and advice from anyone you choose, but I suggest you

learn to "play nice with the other kids" when you're asking people for free

tech support. My reply was on topic and was sincerely meant. I suggest you

start googling for help with your issue or patiently wait for someone else

to reply; I'm no longer inclined to bother.

RE: Blocking Ports

Am I right inassuming your web server is in the DMZ section on your firewall?

In which case, as has already been suggested, configure the firewall rules

to only allow port 80 traffic to and from this particular server (don't

forget HTTPS port 443 traffic if being used).

This is the normal way of protecting a network. A hardware firewall is the

most secure and robust method of protecting a network, software firewalls eat

into the server's resources thus reducing the capability of the server to do

it's primary job.
