How to map long-named server to new short-named server name?

Win2K3 SP1

A server has a name of \\mycompanynameserver\ but an application needs to

have a server name of 8-characters or less. How can I map

\\mycompanynameserver\ to, say, \\mycosvr\? The application then needs to

map, say drive T, to \\mycosvr\data\data\apps\ in an *.INI file.

Thanks!

AFAIK you cannot do this. When you set up a NetBIOS

name or share that is too long then Windows warns you

that the share will be inaccessible to OSs (and apps) that

are subject to the 8.3 file naming restrictions.
